Original watercolor painting, 'Sunflower, Lupine, and Aspen Landscape', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. The mountains surrounding Crested Butte, in western Colorado, receive higher amounts of moisture and so in the summer months, green vegetation and dense clusters of wildflowers cover the lower mountain slopes and open meadows. Here, bright yellow sunflower and blue-purple Lupine flowers fill the foreground, and an aspen grove, with trees filled with fresh green leaves, pop out of the scene, with forest receding into the background and up the hilly, mountainous landscape. A clear blue sky shines overhead. This scene was inspired by a photo I took along Gothic Road, north of Crested Butte, in early July. This portion of the Rocky Mountains is gorgeous and one of my favorite areas of Colorado. Green, blue, purple, and yellow colors fill this painting.
