Description
The turkey vulture, also known in some North American regions as the turkey buzzard, and in some areas of the Caribbean as the John crow or carrion crow, is the most widespread of the New World vultures. On this day a few were on the beach of North Carolina's Outer Banks. They were competing for a large fish carcass with some Heron Gulls. The gulls had the upper hand on this day. They are equally large, and can be as nasty and aggressive as need be, plus they had home field advantage. It was very windy, and the Turkey Vultures were having a difficult time just landing and taking off. They were no match for the gulls on the ground. This guy was actually trying to land in a strong wind, without tumbling nose over tail, as they say.
