Description
The Prentis House, now one of the exhibit buildings at the Shelburne Museum (Shelburne, Vermont) was built in 1773 in Hadley, Massachusetts. It is typical of saltbox architecture that developed in New England during the Colonial period and remained in use, particularly in rural areas, through the American Revolution. Usually, the long sloping roof faced north, while the two-story façade on the opposite side faced south to collect light and solar heat through its windows.
I used a slightly burnished painterly finish to soften the photo-realism just a bit and add a vintage feel… thought it worked well for a portrait of this lovely old home.
