Title
The Grandfather
Artist
ITI Ion Vincent Danu
Medium
Drawing - Watercolor, Acylics, Mixted Media
Description
A linear portrait, in blue ink, of my maternal Grandfather, 2 years before his death. He was my best friend, my mentor and I like to think I was his preferred grandson (having 13 children and 7 who lived long lives, he had a lot of grandsons and granddaughters...) He used to like posing for me and we had many pleasant and interesting hours, me drawing and him telling me stories about his very interesting life. Not an ordinary guy, my granddad! He was a rural policeman (a "jandarm") and a church bariton singer, he immigrated to America and after making some money returned in his Transylvania village and married and become a farmer. Moved to city as an entrepreneur (he was the first to buy a Ford truck and a gas wood cutter), went to war and was made prisoner by the Russians and returned home from Siberia in 1948. Then the communists took (nationalized) everything he owned (the truck, the mill, etc) and he lived long enought to feast 50 years of marriage with my Grandma Ana.

This simple sketch took my heart immediately. After reading the description, I see why....so much love, respect, and emotion went into this "simple sketch." it is beautifully done and sometimes it's just what a person is in the mood for! Wonderful work, v/f

Simple but impressive portrait! Impresionant portretul bunicului tau, impresionanta este povestea vietii lui si taria de caracter de care a dat dovada.
ITI Ion Vincent Danu replied:
Merçi, Natalia! As vrea ca toata lumea sa fi avut un bunic ca el. am fost norocos...

Great portrait, so precious for you...
ITI Ion Vincent Danu replied:
Thanks, Evelina! Multumesc! Singura chestie cu care n-am fost de acord cu bunicu a fost c-o sa mor de foame ca artist (Dansul era un om cu picioarele pe pamant). Da cam vad ca avea dreptate, chiar daca nu literal... Da io tot fericit mi-s!
