Description
This place is on First Capitol in St. Charles. It was built in the 1860s and was first used by the Union Army as a stable, offices and it held a few prisoners, but for most of it's existence, it's been a bar.
And it's home to the last Cocked Hat bowling alley in the US. The game is an import from Great Britain. The game wasn't too terribly popular in the US, as they estimate at it's peak there were no more than 80 to 100 of them nationwide. This is the only one left.
The name, Cocked Hat, is apparently a tradition in the UK. You're supposed to wear your hat sideways when you play this game. Tradition or not, a few pints of Guinness will get you there as well.
They have 2 lanes in the basement. The lanes are half the length of a regular bowling alley lane. And it only uses 3 pins: the head pin, and one in each corner. And the ball, has no holes, and is just a little larger than a softball. I have no clue on the scoring
