It took months to complete this painting even though I was using one color most of the time!I have created many art pieces of my hometown of Bowling Green, KY. Most of this local flavor of artwork revolves around Fountain Square Park and its surrounding architecture. This painting “The Capitol after Leon Garrett for Jonathan Bryant” is of Main St. looking northwest adjacent to the park. I created this piece with Sepia and Titanium white acrylic paints. The colored areas of the Capitol marquee and its reflection is painted with acrylics as well.
The picture of the Capitol was taken by Leon Garret (Mar 5, 1928 – Oct 12, 2017) sometime in between 1948-1951. It now resides in a collection of his photography at our local university, Western Kentucky (WKU.) In his college days, Leon would photograph Bowling Green scenes particularly downtown structures, steam engines and local events. I would thank him if I could, he has some stellar pictures of downtown BG!!!
In the original photograph taken by Mr. Garret, the Capitol is in sepia tones. I added the color to the marquee as it is currently. The Capitol is still a celebrated landmark and working theater today as it was back then.
I love this piece, it represents a day in the life generations ago and presently and how precious it is to live here in Bowling Green, KY.

Beautiful work! I think it can be more difficult to paint monotone because the contrast and shading have to be just right to give form to the objects in the painting and to prevent mudiness. I love the spot color. Wonderful painting!

Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colours flowers, so does art colour life. -- Congratulations on your recent sale of an amazing work!

Absolutely outstanding painting, Misha. I really connect with your art as your talent, technique, patience, is so appreciated. Today way too many art shows and galleries feature abstract speed paintings and work like this is so often taken for granted or even ignored. Yet to me this is REAL art. The finest art!..,,Fav / Like
