Today I added two images of Love in a Mist. The first is called "Shhh Love in a Mist." This one is anything but quiet! I thought this just looked like a party; joy and happiness! It is dramatic. These two flowers were standing right next to each other, but just like brothers and sisters often show . . . you can be related, but still very different!
I was out watering my garden on a hot summer morning when I saw these beautiful fresh Love in the Mist flowers basking in the morning light. The official name is Nigella damascena: “The Romantic,” It has several nicknames such as; Ragged lady, Devil in the bush or Persian Jewel, but I always call it Love in a Mist.
It is an annual garden flowering plant, belonging to the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. It is native to southern Europe, north Africa and southwest Asia, where it is found on neglected, damp patches of land. I guess maybe that explains why it does well in my wild garden!
My children and grandchildren have always been fascinated with the dried seed pods that form. They are great fun to pull apart and find black seeds within, which are sometimes called Black Cumin, are from a related plant, Nigella sativa.
They have brought much joy and happiness to my gardens for so many years. They certainly are Love in a Mist!
Thank you so much for looking at my images. I appreciate that very much.
I am very concerned with our environment and have decided to donate any money I make from any sales of this image to the ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND.....because the Earth needs a good lawyer! We all need to speak up and support efforts to protect our environment. We will not get a second chance!
