Description
Significant progress made on Ptarmigan Fire today 9/30/2021
Fire is still active and poses a risk
SILVERTHORNE, Colo. – Firefighters on the ground and in the air made significant progress Thursday on establishing fire lines around the Ptarmigan Fire northeast of Silverthorne, as evacuated residents were allowed back into their homes.
About 155 fire personnel have been assigned to the fire, which has burned an estimated 85 acres in heavy timber riddled with treacherous downfall and dead-standing trees. Alongside the efforts by hand crews to create fire containment lines, structure-protection crews continued to patrol neighborhoods.
Residents in the Hamilton Creek and upper Angler Mountain Ranch neighborhoods were allowed to go back to their homes at 10 a.m., although they along with residents in the South 40, lower Angler Mountain Ranch and Ptarmigan neighborhoods remain in pre-evacuation status. They are advised to remain vigilant and be ready to evacuate if conditions change.
Fire activity is expected to continue over the next several days, and residents may see smoke or visible flames. Residents also are likely to encounter fire personnel and heavy equipment on the roads and should exercise caution.
The entire burn area and the trails leading into it – including the Angler Mountain and Ptarmigan trails – are under a U.S. Forest Service closure.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Thank you to all the Firefighters!
