The Oconaluftee Valley Overlook, just beyond the North Carolina state line, is my favorite sunrise vantage point in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I ventured to this spot this spot inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park during the wee hours of June 21 to welcome the dawn of summer. The morning did not disappoint as summer awakened with a blaze of color. Sunrises in Great Smoky Mountains National Park paint the southern Appalachian mountains and sky in rainbow hues. The layered ridge lines, deep green foreground foliage, and the ever changing sky at the Oconaluftee overlook offers visitors a classic Smoky Mountain backdrop. Dawn highlights the tones of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
