Description
I was photographing close ups of the cedar trees that grow wild along a meadow field near me and I spotted this cicada bug stuck to the cedar foliage. I didn’t investigate it any further to see if it is just the shell or still in the shell. I don’t like disturbing nature so I just photographed it and left it alone.
Cicadas (Cicadoidea) are invertebrates and are herbivores. There are about 3000 species of this insect. They can live 4 to 17 years depending on the type of Cicada they are. The buzzing sounds they make are actually mating calls. They are considered as not endangered and do not sting or bite. Fun Fact: Some of these insect species can be heard as far 1 mile away.
