Stairway To The Tulum Beach
Artist
John M Bailey
Medium
Photograph - Photographic Art
Description
Tulum was one of the last cities inhabited and built by the Mayas; it was at its height between the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico. Old World diseases brought by the Spanish settlers appear to have been the cause of its demise. One of the best-preserved coastal Maya sites, Tulum is today a popular site for tourists. This, the largest structure at Tulum, is called "El Castillo", which means "the castle".
This photographic based artwork is an unique creation. I work with one of my photographs, using several professional digital tools in multiple steps, to create a one of a kind work of art.

Excellent image, John! It is a tragedy that so many perished because of exposure to diseases from the Old World, to which they had no immunity. Somewhat like our present situation with the novel COVID-19. On the other hand the Spaniards brought the great pox back from the New World, where it was a normal infection among the natives, but, because of the immoral bahaviour of the Spaniards became an STD, so I have no sympathy there.
