The St Marks lighthouse is located on Apalachee Bay near the mouth of the St. Marks River in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. One of the early Florida lighthouses, the original lighthouse for St. Marks was completed in 1831. Due to erosion it was disassembled and a new lighthouse was constructed at the current location in 1842. This structure was heightened in 1882 to raise the light to the current height of 82 feet.
