A Watercolor Painting of the Smoky Mountains, by Rose Elaine.
Have you ever wondered why the Smoky Mountains are Smoky? The vegetation creates the fog or smoke you see hovering above the Mountains in the area — the plants and vegetation release oxygen and other chemicals that are entirely natural and cause no harm, but the name volatile organic compounds may sound dangerous. These chemicals explained the blue tint or what the Cherokee Indians called "Blue Smoke" you see in the Smoky Mountains.
Unfortunately, air pollution contributes, but scientist says 80% of the Smoky Mountain fog is a natural occurrence. Take a drive through Caves Cove - a trip to Tennessee is one you cannot miss!
