"Sargasso Seahorse" is a 5" x 7" watercolor pencil and ink original work of a seahorse clinging to Sargasso weed. Sargasso weed is a vital source of food and protection for several species of fish and other creatures in the Gulf of Mexico and other areas across the globe.
Seahorses are one of my favorite fish - I have had them in salt water tanks before and the love brine shrimp. They are such interesting and whimsical characters to watch as they drift and swim, using their tails to hang on pieces of sea grass and floating seaweed like Sargasso weed. Their yellow and light brown hues provide perfect camouflage while drifting along through the floating habitat.
These small creatures can be found among the Sargasso weed along with file fish and other tiny creatures who depend on the weed for their habitat and food. A very important part of the ecosystem, Sargasso weed is always been pretty to me when it floats gracefully, especially when viewed from under water.
