Route 66 Bridge
Photograph - Digital Art, Photograph
Route 66 bridge near Bethany, Oklahoma.USA. And also to the near west of Oklahoma City. Artistic digital treatment.
This beautiful, long truss bridge sits
west of Oklahoma City on an old section of Route
66. The bridge is drivable, though is mostly used by
cyclists and walkers. It spans the North Canadian
River just north of the point where it empties into
Lake Overholser. The 86-year-old Bridge is 748 feet long. It is a steel bridge mounted on concrete piers.
While this bridge is open to automobile traffic, and I have crossed it a dozen times, it can make your heart pound a bit when passing a car coming from the other direction. It seems pretty narrow to me. I love this old bridge because it reminds me of one I grew up near in Blackwell, Oklahoma. My hometown bridge has been closed to traffic for the past few years due to deterioration. One day these old bridges will be a thing of the past. This one gets the repairs and attention it needs because it sits on old Route 66, the Mother Road, and is of historical significance.
I think the large, beautiful Sycamore tree sets off the colors of the bridge nicely. As i readied for this shot, it was hard to get because of the constant foot traffic and bicyclist using it. I wanted the bridge to be empty for this shot.
I have added a texture to enhance the image. I hope you like it. This image was taken with a Nikon D7000 and a Nikon 24-70 2.8 lens.
