Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. President Bill Clinton designated the area as a national monument in 1996 using his authority under the Antiquities Act. Grand Staircase-Escalante encompasses the largest land area of all U.S. National Monuments.
On December 4, 2017, President Donald Trump ordered that the monument's size be reduced by almost 50 percent, with the remainder broken up into three separate areas.
I drove through this monument on the way to Zion National Park. It was beautiful, steep and a bit scary driving because there are no guard rails. It was suppose to rain so I had to not dally as my friend told me I didnt want to be travelling through here if it rained. The roads had been paved recently which made it easier to drive.
