Title
Rio Samba Revisited
Artist
Ken Powers
Medium
Painting - Watercolor On Paper
Description
While I was taking some reference photos of a single Rio Samba rosebud from Jackson & Perkins, I turned the subject just enough that it had this really strange look about it. I decided I would paint it even though it doesn't fit the traditional "Perfect Rose" image. I really accentuated some of the shadows and light to create some additional interest. The original piece is painted with Daniel Smith and Rublev watercolor paints on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper and is 10"x14" in size.

Magnificent, Ken! The contrasts are perfect, as is the rose!
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Bette! I am definitely going to be attempting to keep a greater focus on light and shadow this year. Wish me luck!

You focused on the light , an got it right. Ken.
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Owen! The original piece has even a bit more contrast than this scan although this is very close. Transparent watercolor is difficult to accurately digitize. I am glad the light and shadows translated correctly because I spent a lot of time trying to get them right!
