Beautifully done. Thank you for the story of your sister and "Let the Mystery Be." I feel a connection as not that many people know of Iris DeMent. The butterfly knows by instinct how to fly. If it had to be explained, I can imagine it might fall instantly to earth. v/f
Carol Senske replied:
You are so right! Perhaps some folks will look up Iris DeMent and enjoy her special talent. Thank you for the nice comment, Lenore, and the V/F:>)

Beautifully shot and processed, Carol! Appreciate the identification and behavioral tidbits. BTW, I saw my first one this year, feeding on a 'ninebark' flower. I didn't sniff the flower (foul smell?) but it was definitely sipping nectar. Photo on p.2 of my site.
Carol Senske replied:
You're very gracious, Byron. I looked at your work and your pictures are gorgeous.

This would have been an excellent image on its own. Your finishing touches take it to a whole new level. Well done Carol.

Hi, Stuart, and thanks! I'm so new to photography (just a couple years with a "point & shoot") that this was a gift - one of those shots where you wonder how in the world it happened:>).
Smithfield, VA - United States
Carol, This is one of my favorite butterflies that you have shown.. They are all interesting and lovely.
Carol Senske replied:
Thank you for the kind comment, Elizabeth-Anne. It started my morning with a smile:>). Our butterflies are just now beginning to "come back" 30 years after a county spraying for gypsy moths. The large moths are still, sadly, very low in numbers, but we do see some on occasion.
