RED ROCK CANYON 14

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area lies in Nevada’s Mojave Desert. It’s known for geological features such as towering red sandstone peaks and the Keystone Thrust Fault, as well as Native American petroglyphs. Panoramic viewing spots dot the 13-mile Scenic Drive. Depending on the time of day, you’ll see why these hills are named “Calico;” a kaleidoscope of pinks, reds and oranges shift with the changing light. The sheltered Ice Box Canyon has seasonal waterfalls. Panoramic viewing spots dot the 13-mile Scenic Drive.

There are 4 different types of rocks or stone in multiple colors; in red and beige, yellow…like pale pale yellow and each one has its own specific name like White Rock Trail Head and Calico Hills and Turtle Head Trail, Almost as though each set of stone tells its own story. The geography has its own language. You can see the Spirit Guides protruding from specific places within the geography and it’s as though that you feel that they’ve been there for a million years just watching over the land keeping everything at peace. 

At mile 10 in the scenic route you feel like you’ve sunk down into the belly of the mountainous range and you literally feel that you are being comforted by womb of the mother of the mountain. So majestic!... and the jagged points makes you want to climb it.

From the view of an artist working in photography and sound, it’s paradise…between the colors, textures and acoustics, I could spend weeks here capturing images and recording sounds and vocaltones.

Red Rock Canyon is rugged mountainous sacred beauty.
