Description
The iguanas are vertebrate reptiles that originated from a group of primitive amphibians and appeared on Earth approximately 300 million years ago.
Like all reptiles, it is a "cold-blooded" animal; This means that they are not able to regulate their own temperature so they obtain it from the outside. This is why they need to live under somewhat high temperatures and have various heat sources available. In addition to this, they must have ultraviolet light (sunlight). Without it, they cannot properly digest food.
Like many of its lizard relatives, the iguana can detach itself from its tail, according to a process called autonomy. This consists of releasing its tail voluntarily by means of a muscular contraction. In causing it, the tail breaks at one of the "faults" located along the tail vertebrae. This procedure is used as a defense, since it allows you to escape danger with greater speed. Another weapon that it has, are its claws that it uses as knives if it is cornered.
