Water lilies like lotuses grown in ponds, lakes, and the edges of streams. They come in various colors, purple, yellow and white. Their shape and centers are strikingly beautiful, along with their green lily pads. Water lilies are popular for their beauty, but are also popular for their religious symbol in many parts of the world.

I photograph this white water lily with its yellow center, just as I was leaving Kenilworth Aquatic Garden, Washington D.C. At this point it was hot and the water lily had closed its inner petals for the day.
