Description
On the way to the Cinque Terre, the ferry first stops here. Though technically not part of the Cinque Terre, Port Venere is a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the other 5 villages.
The history of the site dates back to at least the first century BC. A temple to Venus is now a church, In Roman times this was a fishing village. Lots of interesting history since then.
I posted a previous painting of this village, but called it "Le Grzie", which is an area next door. Very confusing from the water.
