Pearly Gate - Heavenly City
This is my attempt at a painting of one of the Pearly Gates and Heavenly City as described in Revelation 21 of the Holy Bible New Testament. I don’t really think it is possible to fully imagine what it is really like. I am sure St. John found it hard to put into words, so one of the seven angels of God gave him words to write that people could somewhat understand.
The gate made of pearl is opened by the keys to heaven given to the Apostles, Peter being the first, and subsequent disciples of Jesus. I was inspired to label the keys as follows according to the Gospel of Christ:
Repent - or turn away from past sins. The message of John the Baptist and Jesus, Matt. 3:2, 4:17
Believe - Faith and belief in God the Father and Jesus Christ as His Son, who was sent to the world as our Savior, Mark 1:15, John 20:30-31. Believe in Jesus’ power to heal the soul from all ills, Luke 4:18, Matthew 9:28-29. Believe that He will carry us through the ups and downs of life and to resurrect us after death, Matthew 22:29-33.
Love - Love of God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself, Matthew 22:35-40. Love your enemies, Matthew 5:43-46. Love one another, John 13:34-35. Faith, hope, love, greatest of these is love, because it is eternal, 1 Corinthians 13:13.
Holy Spirit - Baptized by the Holy Spirit, Matthew 3:11. Worship Him in Spirit and in truth, John 4:23-24, Matthew 12:32. Emptied of fruit of the flesh and filled with fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5.
