Description
I arrived at the Norris Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park after overnight below-freezing temperatures and snow. This made for a very dramatic landscape with thick steam coming from the thermal features in the Porcelain Basin section. Combined with the cumulus clouds, it was hard to tell where the steam ended and the clouds began. Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest, oldest, and most dynamic of Yellowstone's thermal areas. Norris Geyser Basin is changing all the time, which makes it one of the most interesting thermal areas in the Park. These changes can involve unusual boiling, chemical changes to water, variations in spring activity, and increases in acidity and cloudiness of certain hot springs and geysers.
