Description
Dramatic light on the National Monument at Calton Hill in Edinburgh, Scotland. The National Monument is modelled on the Parthenon of Athens and is a memorial to Scottish servicemen who died in the Napoleonic Wars. It was designed in the 1820s by Charles Robert Cockerell and William Henry Playfair. Construction of the National Monument was left unfinished in 1829 due to lack of funding.
Calton Hill is near the eastern end of Princes Street and is part of Edinburgh's UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the best views of the city of Edinburgh can be seen from the top of Calton Hill. Besides the National Monument, other notable landmarks around Calton Hill include the Nelson Monument, the Dugald Stewart Monument and the Robert Burns Monument. St Andrew's House, the headquarters of the Scottish Government is located on the southern slopes of Calton Hill.

The sky is so powerful in this image. It does a lot to accentuate the monument. Nice work Ian!
