Lianne Schneider

Description
Miserere and Benedicere are the Latin words for either the simple infinitive or the imperative of "have mercy" and "bless" respectively.
The words below are not the lyrics to the song by the same name (link posted at bottom) but are my own prose-poem about loss, misery and the blessing that can come from even our darkest night.
MISERERE
I am neither saint in this nor worthless sinner -
for all my weeping wretchedness and grief
for all the blame I heap upon your head
I am not faultless in the shattered glass of us.
I loved you then and love you still
without ever having loved you well enough.
Miserere. . .
I am neither rock nor island and yet
at times I feel as remote and as dead
as some deserted volcanic atoll
where the living fire that I once was
has cooled not just to graying ash
but compressed into unmovable stone..
Miserere. . .
I am neither romantic lover nor spiteful hater
bent on feeding my fantasies or stoking my anger.
I may beat my breast in misery at dawn of every day
but my heart whispers another more grateful truth -
listen, listen, everything but love is a lie
and real love is never wasted, never lost.
Miserere. . .benedicere. . .
We are neither of us all dark or all light
though we've borne our shadows without grace.
We've let our inner lamps go dim, and yet,
I know that we have not begun to understand
that where we are is where we're meant to be this day,
that some deep sorrows and deeper joys are inseparable.
Miserere. . .benedicere. . .
We are neither our past nor our future -
Our past is in ruins, a Pompeii of rubble,
the future but a cruel chimera of wishful dreams.
We have, in the end, only this present in which to love,
to be all that we can be and be true to ourselves
and in this way only bring peace to each other.
Benedicere. . .

Please enjoy the incredible voices of Andrea Bocelli and John Mills in an amazing performance of the song "Miserere" (from which I took the title of my own piece) written by Zucchero Fornaciari and Bono at

love this one, simply stunning v
Lianne Schneider replied:
I hadn't meant originally for it to be quite so Gothic or melodramatic but sometimes art takes on a life of its own. In this case, I think the poetry drew this out as an extension of the words. I'm so very pleased and grateful that you like it so much.

I just became your 70th vote....=) There anguish of the work is palpable. Anyone who loves knows what it feels like to be love sick. Even our best attempts at love are not enough to stop us from wounding those closest to us at times. Extraordinary work!
Lianne Schneider replied:
What an amazingly lovely and thoughtful thing to say Angelina and what wonderful insight. It means so much to have someone respond to the poetry as much as the image and I thank you for that.

Lianne, I have chills ... your image ... your poetry ... I am humbled by your enormous talent and your wisdom. How right you are when you say "We have, in the end, only this present in which to love, to be all that we can be and be true to ourselves and in this way only bring peace to each other." It is as if the universe directed me to this image and your words tonight. Thank you.

This is such a powerfully emotional work Lianne! -- as are most of yours... You are such a jewel and your wonderful works reflect the sparkle of your soul! This is absolutely exquisite and the meanings hidden within it could not be contained in a mere comment, but a book could be written to describe its depths. Well done my friend! v/f of course!
