Description
The Miller farmstead came into being when Dave and Louisa Miller began farming it in 1870. The home pictured was built in 1909. Millers were part of those early settlers to Appalachia. Their subsistence farm also included a barn, corn crib, hog pen, root cellar, smoke house, chicken house, and of course an outhouse. They all surrounded the old wood frame house.
Today the homestead is included in the National Register of Historic Places and is a part of the Roan Mountain State Park. It has been preserved and allows visitors to get a glimpse into what life was like before today's modern conveniences.
Every November the house is decorated for the holidays offering hot cider, snacks and live music.
