Illustrating the ancient adage, “Mighty oaks from tiny acorns grow,” this sturdy old oak tree, one of the largest in the state, stands strong and firm on a Texas ranch not far from Houston, surrounded by rolling hills of bright green grass. Beyond the dark wood fence more oak trees are seen, and a prominent stand of tall pines through which the late afternoon sun shines brightly.
Image includes a small pond adjacent to the huge oak, whose age is not known. Some oaks have been alive for a thousand years. Leading lines take the viewer through this peaceful scene of bright green pastures, wooden fences, and the play of light and shadow. The blue sky appears white; no people.
