Description
This colourful bird was the looser in a noisy battle over a female pheasant which drew me into the field to see what was happening. The winner and his prize had trotted off together in the opposite direction.
Pheasants are an introduced species that has settled here with little problem. It can be spotted in its farmland and woodland habitats, although, like me, you'll probably hear the loud, croaking call of the male before you see it.
