This is one of my favourite spots on the Gold Coast. It's just so peaceful and pleasing to the eye and is especially beautiful once the sun sets. It's a perfect place for a picnic or romantic outing and every time I come here it just WOW's me. I've been studying this scene for a long time thinking... "how can I capture the beauty of the sunset, with the reflection of the buildings on the water and also the magic of the stars", as they don't tend to show up that well in a regular photograph due to the bright city lights.

I employed a lengthy and pain staking process of combining over 200 images into one to capture every detail of the scene so in a sense you could call it a time lapse photograph as the sun fell behind us while the stars rotated in front. It took 2 hours to capture and 2 days to process which was a day and a half longer than I anticipated.

My automatic shutter release cable decided to stop working so I manually had to press the shutter for every shot. The camera was stable on a tripod with no wind or other factors that would create camera shake yet about 30% of the images were out of focus and 20% moved entirely. Meaning that the images didn't line up and I had to delete one third of them so I didn't have the luxury of a simple edit.

This equipment failure created the gaps in the star trails and initially I was disappointed but, out of curiosity, I persevered with the rest of the edit anyway and it was only when I combined all the elements together that magic started to appear and my wish was coming true.

This process has reinforced the understanding that while the journey may seem arduous as you're going through it, if you keep the faith and hold on to your dream, everything you strive for will eventually work out, so go ahead and Make A Wish.
