Description
At low tide it is a rough but rewarding climb down over all the rocks on the shoreline near Bass Harbor Head Light on Mount Desert Island, Maine. The first part of the climb down is easy, by the stairs which you can see in the upper part of the image. And you get that first tantalizing peek of the lighthouse. So you think...just a little bit farther....just a little bit farther. With your eye on the lighthouse, you make your way very very cautiously over the rocks, picking each step carefully. Thinking...don't drop the camera....and remembering you are by yourself so you'd better not fall! The view gets better and better, you keep moving forward! Pretty soon you turn around and look back over the rocks and realize that you have to do it all in reverse. Keep focused on your footholds I kept telling myself, and soon enough I and my camera and my tripod were back safely off the rocks!
