Description
Founded in 1912, Rice University has been developed in a relatively uniform Mediterranean Revival style, emphasizing light brick facades, quadrangles, archways, and decorative columns. The Administration Building, the first building on campus, was designed by architects Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson. Ralph Adams Cram was known for his churches, libraries, and schools before taking on Rice Institute's master plan. Renamed to Lovett Hall in 1947 to honor President Emeritus Edgar Odell Lovett, the building houses the Admission Office and Welcome Center.
