Description
A vintage lightning rod photographed in northeast Alabama conjures up imagination...how many times can lightning strike the same place?
In a small part of northeastern Venezuela lightning has hit 160 nights a year, for 10 hours at a time, as many as 280 strikes per hour, and 1.2 million strikes per year... name for this amazing phenomenon? Rel'mpago del Catatumbo or "the everlasting storm!"

Thank you so much to buyer from Egg Harbor Township, NJ for your kind support! Hope you enjoy this T-shirt! Don't see many of the old lightening rods left on homes.

My sister on a visit to me in rural NC asked what was the purpose of these structures. I said they were lightning rods, but whether to avert the lightning or attract it and guide it harmlessly away, I wasn't sure. Thanks for the image!

Glad you enjoyed this one Sarah ;) The father who owns the deteriorating farmhouse where this beautiful lightning catcher proudly sits rooftop had drove up with his son while I was photographing from roadside in hopes that I was from the newspaper and knew the history of home. They were such nice people, enjoyed talking with them and would have loved to learned more about the place, looks like we both had the same hopes and learned nothing more lol.
