Description
The Liberty Bridge, which crosses the Danube River between Buda and Pest, was built for the 1896 World Exhibition and was named the Franz Joseph Bridge after the Emperor. Near the end of World War II in 1945, it was destroyed by retreating Nazi troops, along with all the other bridges of the city. Not irreparable, the Franz Joseph was the first to be rebuilt and was reopened to traffic in 1946 as the Liberty Bridge. Budapest, Hungary. Copyright 2005 Ann Horn. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
