Description
Let It Be is the twelfth and final studio album by the Beatles. Released on 8 May 1970, almost one month after the group’s break-up. The album was mixed as the Get Back project but that title was reject as the title due to the many bootlegged copies of the original song. The project was finally assembled by producer Phil Spector with the Let It Be title. He added many audio enhancements that, as it turned out, offended Paul McCartney. In 2003 Paul remixed the album and it was released as Let It Be…Naked.
Critics were generally not pleased with the album but, it still topped record charts around the world. In the US it reached 4X Platinum (4,000,000) unit/sales as certified by the Record Industry Association of America.
A documentary film of the rehearsing sessions and recording of the songs along with their final public appearance as a group on the rooftop of the Apple Corporations headquarters was also released. In 1971, Let It Be won the Grammy Award for Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or Television Special. The Beatles also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score.
Along with all the trials and tribulations of completing the album, the film and the groups breakup, Let It Be has come to be regarded as one of the most controversial rock albums in history.
