Description
The first time I saw this view of Lake Como Italy, I just loved the beauty of the lake and the mountains. On subsequent views I could appreciate and identify some of the places I had been. The small town hugging the lakeside is called Fiumelatte and is named after the shortest river in Italy (or vice versa) that flows through it. The river is only 820’ long and roars down the steep hillside only from about mid- March to mid-October. The little stand of cypress trees about half way up the hillside behind the town is called Baluardo, which means ‘rampart’, and it is a great place for a short hike to get beautiful views up and down the lake. Right by the house with the red roof on the left side of the train tracks is the hiking trail from Varenna and here you can cross the tracks to get to Fiumelatte. No OSHA mandated fences or gates, just use your common sense!
