Description
The James River Bridge is a 4.5 mile drawbridge that carries traffic across the James River between Newport News and Isle of Wright County in Virginia. When the original two-lane bridge was completed in 1928, it was the longest bridge in the world to cross water.
The bridge was replaced from 1975 to 1982 with a four-lane bridge. A portion of the old bridge was left in place as a fishing pier on the Newport News side.
While traveling from Hampton, Virginia on an overcast day, I stopped at Huntington Beach, in Newport News. There I saw and men fishing from the pier along the James River Bridge.
