Description
The Harbor of Refuge is surrounded by three sections of breakwaters. The breakwaters, which took ALMOST 2,000,000 tons of stone, were built to form a harbor of refuge for ships endangered by the rocks of Point Judith two miles to the east. The Point Judith lighthouse, a landmark operated by the Coast Guard, marks the entrance to Narragansett Bay. (#1382)
