Description
This is a Green Sweat Bee that was enjoying the Indian Blanket flowers in looking for pollen and nectar. I liked how it green metallic body stood out on the red-orange flowers.
Augochlora Sweat Bees (Augochlora pura) are small and not as common as bi-color sweat bees. They have pollen baskets on their legs to collect pollen like other bees do. They do sting but are not keen to do so as they are not aggressive.
Indian Blanket flowers (Gaillardia pulchella) are also known as Fire Wheel flowers. It is the state flower of Oklahoma but you see a lot of these in my part of north Texas as well. It grows in meadows and along the highways with other wildflowers.
