Title
Ghost Trout
Artist
Sue Bonnar
Medium
Painting - Pen And Ink, Watercolor Pencil
Description
This work is something relatively new for me, it utilizes the Japanese art form of Gyotaku. This art form is done using the actual fish with ink or paint on fabric or paper. I was recently part of a team that participated in the largest women's fishing tournament on the Gulf Coast, the "Babes on the Bay" 2016 tournament.
These three fish are spotted sea trout , commonly found in the Rockport area. This work features three of the biggest trout we caught swimming above turtle grass, so named because of turtles enjoy eating it.
The original is 30" x 24" printed on cotton muslin fabric. I used acrylic paint on the fish, then added details using ink on the fish with the grass being watercolor pencil. The pencil adds an interesting effect when the water is added, especially on the rough fabric.
It was an interesting experiment and a great way to commemorate trophy fish but still have fish for dinner.
