Description
Found on a 1930 Ford Model A, a Boyce Motometer. These were retrofitted to finally show a driver the engine temperature, however they didn't always work accurately, but it was an improvement over waiting until steam poured out of the car! It was fitted as a radiator cap on the hood of the car.
Patented in 1912, the monometer became obsolete in the 1930's when dashboard gagues came into being.
At first the Monometer was an aftermarket retrofit for a radiator cap, then it became offered by car manufacturers as both standard and optional equipment. You could get them in an assortment of styles, to include political statements! They were manufactured on Long Island.
