Description
"Foraging Wild Turkey Hens, Vermont" by Catherine Sherman.
A flock of female wild turkeys forage in a hay field in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.
As evening nears, the flock will roost in the trees, which are now beginning to show their Autumn colors.
The wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) is an upland ground bird native to North America and is the heaviest member of the diverse Galliformes. It is the same species as the domestic turkey, which was originally derived from a southern Mexican subspecies of wild turkey
