I’m not sure why every city feels compelled to have a gigantic ferris wheel, but here is the one in Tokyo Japan officially named Daikanransha (meaning ‘big wheel’). It is located in the Odaiba section of the city, a large artificial island in Tokyo Bay, where a massive landfill project connecting previous small islets during the late 20th century created a major commercial, residential and recreational area. At 115 m high, Daikanransha was the world’s tallest for a short time after opening in 1999, to be overtaken by the London Eye in 2000. Today it is the 12th tallest ever constructed. From the top you can view the Tokyo Tower, the Rainbow Bridge, Haneda Airport, and Mt Fuji on a clear day. The ride is about 16 minutes.
