'Playing cricket on the beach with Granddad' inspired by a family game of cricket on Exmouth beach in Devon, UK. I painted this study of 3 children playing cricket with their grandfather who, with bat in hand, is about to hit the ball for six? a beach chair is being used as the wicket and Grandma stands to one side perhaps as a fielder? though her posture suggests she is acting as umpire. The colourful sky, sea and sand that are typical of this part of the coast, where the River Exe meets the sea have been swept in with loose washes giving the painting and overall light and breezy feel, just like this day at the beach!
