Description
Colonel George Fabyan, born in 1867, made his millions in the textile industry. He purchased 325 acres of land along the Fox River in Batavia, Illinois US. He operated a research lab which greatly contributed to the knowledge of cryptology. He was an eclectic collector and a bit eccentric. He purchased this windmill in 1914 and had it moved from another Illinois site to his property in Batavia, approximately 40 miles from Chicago. It was originally built by Louis Blackhaus in the 1850's and restored in the early 2000's by 3rd generation Dutch windmill maker Lucas Verbij. According to Verbij it is the best example of a Dutch windmill in the US. It is currently owned by the Kane County Forest Preserve District and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
