The Ether Monument, installed in 1868, is the oldest monument in the Boston Public Garden. It commemorates a medical breakthrough: the use of ether as an anesthetic.
The two figures were sculpted by John Quincy Adams Ward and portrays the Biblical story of the Good Samaritan.
