Description
Emerson Lake & Palmer is the self-titled debut studio album by the British progressive rock group of the same name, released in January 1971 in the US on Atlantic Records Cotillion label (SD9040). The album charted at #4 on the UK Album Chart and #18 on the US Billboard 200. In Canada the album was in the Top 100 for 35 weeks. The song “Lucky Man” reached #48 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Greg Lake wrote the song when he was twelve years old.
ELP, a progressive rock super-group, as they were labeled, formed in April 1970 and consisted of keyboardist Keith Emerson, singer, bassist, guitarist Greg Lake and drummer, percussionist Carl Palmer. The trio won some critical acclaim but did not achieve overwhelming success. Both Keith Emerson, who’s gunshot wound to the head was ruled as suicide, and Greg Lake died in 2016 leaving Carl Palmer the sole survivor. Their style is ethereal and deserves a listening to if you are so inclined in the genre.
