The Eilean Donan, or Island of Donan, Castle is everything you think it is and more. To see it in person is extraordinary! The history was fascinating, but I really appreciated the family photos scattered around the castle. The MacRae family purchased the castle 1911 and completely refurbished the castle by 1932. If you look very closely at the photograph, you can see the twinkling lights in a window. That window is located in the main dining hall, which is covered from top to bottom in the MacRae tartan! It is elegant to be sure! The castle is magnificent and I feel that I should write a thank you note to the MacRae family for allowing us the privilege of visiting their family home.
