Description
Eastern Sierras
Living in California kind of spoils a person to all of the beauty that surrounds them. Hwy 395 down the backside of the Sierra Nevada Range is one of those drives that everyone should take at least once in their lives.
Hwy. 395 to me is the backbone of California even though it dips in and out of Nevada to get around Lake Tahoe.
The Hwy runs from the middle of Oregon all the way south to San Bernardino. I mostly pick it up as I drop down out of South Lake Tahoe on the Kingsbury Grade and pick it up outside of Gardnerville. From there it's less than a 2 hour drive to the eastern entrance of Yosemite National Park and the Yosemite High Country.
30 minutes further and your in the town of Mammoth Lake. Known for it's cute shops, huge ski resort, camping and hiking.
Once you leave Mammoth Lakes and start driving south you will pass the Alabama Hills and the Eastern Nevadas. This image was captured not too far from Lone Pine. Not far from here you can see the peak of Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states.
Take a left out of Lone Pine driving south and before you know it your in Death Valley.
