I paint a lot of scenes of Fountain Square Park in my hometown of Bowling Green, KY. This painting “E. Main St., USA” reflects the street adjacent to the park. I used to work as a bartender at Micki’s restaurant, and I became friends with the people who lived and worked on E. Main St., so I decided to get a very large canvas and go for it! The drawing took the most amount of time, preparing sketches and taking measurements. I needed to understand how large to draw the buildings without leaving a building out because I didn’t have room for it…that wouldn’t be too accurate. I painted this with acrylics and finished with permanent marker to keep the lines straight and “folksy” looking. The people represented on the street include my husband and our two golden retrievers, two artist friends Alice and Angie, several owners of the businesses, the crazy bicycle rider, my friends, and some of their children, and myself drinking a glass of chardonnay in front of Micki’s with my best friend Micki and Tom. I love this piece, it represents to me the warm feeling, a day in the life, and how precious it is to live here in Bowling Green, KY.

Thank you so much Mohammad!!!! I thought you would be interested in this story too...I gave my copyright blessings of E. Main St., USA to the International Student Admission and Affairs center at my local university-WKU. They use my image on coffee cups, mouse pads, pens, towels, literature, etc. and send these to prospective students all over the world who are interested in attending WKU. The administer called me at home and asked if they could use the image and told her the center could have it for free. I think the girl who I talked to fell out of her chair :), because that's what it sounded like!!! I just couldn't charge them...but I got a big ole basket of products with my images sent to me months later and I know in my heart I have made some people happy and maybe change their direction in life, hopefully for better!!!!
